LONDON — Browns rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel, a lefty, can rest assured that his blindside will be protected as long as Jack Conklin’s right elbow holds up.
Conklin, who’s missed the past three games with the elbow injury, is active today and will try to play. There’s no guarantee, however, that he’ll make it through the whole game.
The Browns will also started second-year pro KT Leveston at left tackle. It’s his second NFL start after least week’s 34-10 loss in Detroit. The Browns acquired left tackle Cam Robinson in a trade with the Texans on Monday, but he’s only practiced with the team twice since the Browns swapped late-round picks to get him.
Swing tackle Cornelius Lucas, who’s started the past three games, is inactive with Robinson on board.
Robinson will be available to play on either side.
In other encouraging roster news for the Browns, starting cornerback Greg Newsome II is also active for the game despite suffering a hamstring injury in practice on Wednesday. Like Conklin, he was listed as questionable.
That’s good news for the Browns, because the Vikings have two excellent receivers in Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. They also have a premier tight end in T.J. Hockenson, who will be covered, in part, by safety Grant Delpit and linebacker Carson Schwesinger.
Rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel is attempting to become the first Browns quarterback since 1999 to win his first career start. According to ESPN Stats and info, Browns QBs making their first starts are 0-16, while throwing 14 touchdowns, 22 INTs and averaging 14.1 points per game.
